Hiring

Whenever we're hiring for a specific position, we'll make sure to post it here. We also usually list on Indeed and GoodFoodJobs.

We've also been made aware of some job board sites posting fake job ads using text from old listings. Please do NOT give random websites your contact info -- they're not us! Thanks!!

We are currently accepting applications for the following positions: Counter Sales (Weekends) and Chocolatier/Confectioner.

---

COUNTER SALES (WEEKENDS)

You’ll be working at our chocolate kiosk inside Thornes Marketplace to help customers prepare gift boxes of truffles and caramels. General cash handling and point-of-sale experience is great, but experience with specialized sales (wine, coffee, cheese, books, etc.) would be ideal.

The majority of sales will be working with customers one-on-one to help pick out gifts, so people skills will go a long way. You have a knack for making bad days better and can handle tough interactions with grace.

Our space is small and most shifts will be working alone for extended periods of time. You’ll be expected to work independently for long periods with little direction, keeping the kiosk tidy, and completing assigned tasks (pre-folding/stamping gift boxes, cleaning, making assortments, and restocking). It’d be great if you have solo opening/closing experience.

The rate for this position is between $16-$17/hr base rate depending on experience, plus tips (~ $1.50/hr on slow weeks to $3/hr on busier weeks). We offer paid time off in addition to sick time. This position is specifically for weekends - Saturdays and Sundays (Fridays also available if desired), so you can expect approximately 15hrs/wk. Hours of operation on Friday and Saturday are 10 AM to 8PM (morning or evening shifts) and Sundays 12PM to 5PM (solo - one shift).

This role does require periods of standing and lifting up to 30lbs (with reasonable accommodation).

To apply, send the following to firetypechocolate@gmail.com with Application - Counter in the subject line:

  • Your resume
  • A little about yourself
  • Three (3) professional references to contact after interview
  • Availability

Please note that we typically do not follow up if you’re not selected for an interview. That said, we do keep applications on hand and review them regularly as our needs change! Thank you!

CHOCOLATIER/CONFECTIONER

We are looking for the right person to join our kitchen crew, crafting whimsical chocolates that toe the line between fancy and fun.

Kitchen shifts are typically 6 to 8 hours in an isolated 68-70 degree environment downstairs from our shop. Shifts are often simple, repetitive tasks involving making, cutting, and dipping caramels and ganaches. We also paint and cast a variety of molds for our seasonal pieces (think eggs for Easter, snowmen for winter holidays, etc). You will be on your feet for most of the day making small movements with your hands.

We maintain a fairly relaxed environment, but do expect our team to work cleanly, quickly, and with quality. This is a job that is often creatively satisfying, but comes with the ups and downs of batch production work prepping hundreds of little candies each day.

Confectioners are also asked to assist our Counter Sales staff from time to time with 15-30min break coverage, restocks, or the occasional call-out. You should be comfortable interacting with customers and selling the product you've had a hand in making from time to time. Please review the description listed for Counter Sales in addition to this role before applying.

For this role, we are hoping to find an applicant with previous confectionery experience - we're happy to train the right person, so please consider applying if you do not have confectionery history or past kitchen experience...some of our favorite past employees were folks who've had no experience but strong work ethic and a solid moral compass. Extra credit for applicants who are familiar with both continuous and tabletop tempering machines, cocoa butter airbrushing, and enrobers.

The rate for this position is between $17-$20/hr base rate depending on experience. We offer paid time off in addition to sick time and flexible scheduling (in the "we approve time off requests" way and not "we scheduled you open to close for the next week" way). This position has 16 to 35 hours available - we are looking for the right person and are willing to fit our needs around yours. Hours of operation on Friday and Saturday are 10 AM to 8PM (morning or evening shifts) and Sundays 12PM to 5PM (solo - one shift).

This role requires extended periods of standing and occasional lifting up to 50lbs (with reasonable accommodation).

To apply, send the following to firetypechocolate@gmail.com with Application - Chocolatier in the subject line:

  • Your resume
  • A little about yourself
  • Three (3) professional references to contact after interview
  • Availability
  • Optional - a portfolio if you have one, no worries if you don't

Please note that we typically do not follow up if you’re not selected for an interview. That said, we do keep applications on hand and review them regularly as our needs change! Thank you!
